Search Engine optimization (SEO)-My Journey

For past few weeks, I have been searching for different strategies to promote my blog. In this want of promotion techniques, I came across this term commonly known as ‘SEO’ that stands for Search engine optimization. I found it very useful since it ensures your ranking and your appearance in search results when the key words related to your site are searched through a search engine.

The blogshpere is full of tips and strategies to ensure the SEO of your content but when I searched for posts related to SEO in Pakistani blogshpere, I was disappointed. It may be possible that certain bloggers are following some techniques but they are not sharing their experiences on their blogs publicly. I don’t know why???

The other day, I read this post by SAJ Shirazi about monetizing blogs and was quite impressed with it. SAJ appears sharing a lot of his valuable experiences and this post is a testimony to his this habit. Let’s get back to SEO thing.

My attention to SEO was drawn by a fellow blogger Qurratulain when I commented on her this post and she replied. Her reply was the tip that I followed and found this monster of SEO that is devouring if not all, then a lot of my time. Qurratulain appears a seasoned blogger too and I am learning few good things from her (though in stealth mode till this post).

Here, Teeth Maestro is also worthy of mention since this post on his blog about blog traffic provided me a great deal of insight about the delicacies of blogging and I made this wise decision of purchasing my web hosting plan and registering a domain.

Going through all this makes me think that how things are inter-linked. Qurratulain’s reply clicked my mind, I started searching for related stuff, learnt couple of things about SEO, Teeth Maestro provided me the insight, SAJ Shirazi impressed me with his helping attitude and I learnt a great deal. While writing all this, I am sure they are not aware of what I am thinking or feeling about them and I am sure they would have remained as such but I felt obliged to say it loud since I can’t wait too long to say all the good things about them till they die (fellows don’t mind, I sincerely pray for your long life). See, how this life is!

The word life use to trigger strong emotions in me. As soon as I typed the last words in above paragraph, I felt myself sighing. I think I am in a mood of getting carried away so it’s better to end my post here. At the moment, I am trying few things out and will write about them soon for that matter you need to come back again. How about subscribing to my feed via email or your feed reader to get all my future post (though I am not as good as so many of my other fellow bloggers but I guarantee that I will not bore you atleast)?

And yes the most important thing, thank you SAJ Shirazi, Qurratulain, Teeth Maestro for helping me and so many others around!!!

Those of you who are users of CSS Forum Pakistan must be familiar with our very own economist friend Qurratulain. She is a blogger and a very kind soul who is there to help anyone asking for some. Today, while I was surfing the blogsphere, I came across this very good piece about her in her very own words. Yes, it’s her interview that published by The Pakistani Spectator blog recently. In her interview she has touched some very important issues related to blogs of Pakistani origin and other issues like current political situation in Pakistan. I think it’s worth reading. Top Ten Pakistani Blogs???

Today, I searched Google for top ten Pakistani blogs with all the possible key words but all my efforts seemed going in vain. Every then and now, Google fetched me only one link of a post by SAJ Shirazi regarding top ten blogs of 2006. Having this thought up my brain, an idea clicked my mind to move for a permanent ranking of Pakistani blogs based on popular choice.

What do you say? I wonder, if any attempt of similar nature has been made previously? If someone can point out to any such ranking, I will stay thankful to him. If not, please do consider this plan of mine:

Step 1: I do have this page on my blog carrying all the Pakistani blogs registered with Bloggers Pakistan. Now the thing starts with readers voting the blogs to nominate the top ten blogs initially from this complete list of blogs.

Step 2: With passage of time say in a two week’s period after the start of voting, we will come up with a list carrying the top ten blogs on the basis of nominations by the readers.

Step 3: After getting this list of top ten Pakistani blogs at first place, this scribe will maintain a permanent page on this blog carrying the top ten Pakistani blogs and every week on the basis of the votes of the readers that week, this top ten list will get updated and latter we can also plan top ten blogs of quarter/month/year.

This is how, I think, we can manage this Top ten blog Ranking of Pakistani Blogsphere. I need your frank opinion because your opinion is the only thing that matters. Please pour some ideas and lets get the ball rolling… Else, it’s just an idea and we will be able to materialize it only when we all are joining hands together and approving it. I need the support of Pakistani blog fraternity and I hope the heartiest response.
