I happened to read this piece somewhere; I don’t know about the author who wrote it but since it touched my heart, I felt like sharing it with you. In my point of view, in this piece the writer has beautiful covered all the aspects of a Police officer’s life

When the Lord was creating Police Officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said,

“You’re doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.”

And the Lord said, “Have you read the spec on this order? A Police Officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn’t touch, and not wrinkle his uniform.

“He has to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses, and testify in court the next day.

“He has to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half-eaten meals. And he has to have six pairs of hands.”

The angel shook her head slowly and said, “Six pairs of hands… no way.”

“It’s not the hands that are causing me problems,” said the Lord, “it’s the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have.”

“That’s on the standard model?” asked the angel.

The Lord nodded. One pair that sees through a bulge in a pocket before he asks, “May I see what’s in there, sir?” (When he already knows and wishes he’d taken that accounting job.) “Another pair here in the side of his head for his partners’ safety. And another pair of eyes here in front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say, ‘You’ll be all right ma’am, when he knows it isn’t so.”

“Lord,” said the angel, touching his sleeve, “rest and work on this tomorrow.”

“I can’t,” said the Lord, “I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident and feed a family of five on a civil service paycheck.”

The angel circled the model of the Police Officer very slowly, “Can it think?” she asked.

“You bet,” said the Lord. “It can tell you the elements of a hundred crimes; recite Miranda warnings in its sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on the street in less time than it takes five learned judges to debate the legality of the stop… and still it keeps its sense of humor.

This officer also has phenomenal personal control. He can deal with crime scenes painted in hell, coax a confession from a child abuser, comfort a murder victim’s family, and then read in the daily paper how law enforcement isn’t sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects.”

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the peace officer. “There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model.”

“That’s not a leak,” said the lord, “it’s a tear.”

“What’s the tear for?” asked the angel.

“It’s for bottled-up emotions, for fallen comrades, for commitment to that piece of cloth called the flag.”

“You’re a genius,” said the angel.

The Lord looked somber. “I didn’t put it there,” he said.

Two things are on my mind, one the movie, ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ by director of Gladiator, yes none other than Ridley Scot and the other one is a guest post at the blog of one of finest Pakistani Bloggers, Awab aka Teeth Maestro. I am taking up both in a bit detail.

Its 02:37 hrs and I am done with watching a wonderful movie named Kingdom of Heaven. This is sort of a movie I long for and I simply loved it. ‘You are not what you are born but you are what you have in you’, these are the dialogues that got stamped while watching this movie. I would say, I even was not in a mood to blink my eyes. I think I will watch it again some time soon. In this movie, the pride and dignity of men was highlighted. Not only this but the lead character appears to fight for common men in which he takes pride and it turned this movie into a fantastic watch. Moreover, I forgot to mention that I watched it using PTCL broadband’s internet entertainment portal. They have a fair collection of Hollywood, Bollywood, Lollywood movies, all time hit Pakistani Drama serials like ‘Sunahray Din’, ‘Chand Girhan’ and all sorts of music. I think I will explore more with them.

As soon as I was done with this movie, I thought to have a look at my Facebook account and there I found this news in my feed about this guest post titled “Pakistani Bloggers and Zardari: A suggestion for Both!”. The title was catchy so I couldn’t stop myself from exploring it further. Once I was there on Teeth Maestro’s blog, it made a good and thought provoking read. It is about the political situation in Pakistan, the role bloggers have been playing and what they need to do in future. It is sort of an editorial from the author named Silence who blogs at Islamabad Observer Blog. In this post the author has mentioned his analysis, his polity and has tried to influence the opinion of bloggers of Pakistani origin. His point is a bit valid but at times, my mind was clicking on something and I don’t know what was it but it felt like something is missing. Keeping these subjective thoughts apart, the writer has rightly pointed out that the ball now is in the court of President Zardari and he need to deal the problems of Pakistan according to the wishes and aspirations of Pakistani Nation. Apart from this he has also emphasized the need of Pakistani bloggers to play an active role.

At the moment, I am thinking that both movie and the post are related in some way. Let’s not go into the details. I am not in a mood of thinking too much at the moment and even don’t want to end this post beautifully, I would simply say good night and sweet dreams since I need to sleep too.

It is a matter of personal choice. If you think that you can prepare at your own and have the necessary guidance available, it is not necessary for you to join. In case you need to focus on things and you find it difficult to get the required push by a learned and well qualified instructor, it is always very helpful to join an academy. So, now the ball is in your court and you have got to play it the way you want. In my personal case, I had joined an academy and it helped me a great deal. It may be or may not be true for everybody since I have seen many fellows passing this examination without coaching.

Its been quite sometime that I have started working on some project with District Police Department of my home town and this has offered me a chance to look into the situation around. Having observed things around, I have come across a fact that if a Police officer in Pakistan is upright and honest, he can provide relief to lots of people and make a huge difference but unfortunately, there are very few who think so and follow the honest policy.

In my view, corruption is every where and we can not deny its presence in our system too but I believe that a lot can be done and as observed by me, many good individuals are trying a good deal to do the things right. I am optimistic that things will take positive turn in due course of time and we need friends who can support this idea since by calling we will do no good to our system. Only practical approach can help. What do you think?

(This is a comment that I recieved from my dearest friend Gisele regarding my post on Psychoanalysis)

Dear Farrukh,As you have written about the area of knowledge that I study, I wrote a text to contribute to your blog and talk a little more about my choices. I like to study the epistemologists from the Psychologies (plural because this science has many schools that can even deny each other). The personality has been a controversial subject throughout the history of Psychology. Psychology as a science had its origin in 19th century answering to a demand of that historical moment: the consolidation of the Capitalism and a demand from an Empiricist, Mechanist and Rationalism science. The origin of psychology was necessary to control on “free human being” (I mention the freedom while one of the myths that the bourgeoisie of 18th century dictated as truth. The others were the fraternity and the equality). Thus, since its origin as a science, Psychology faced a problem: to be situated as a natural science following the mold of the Positivism or to be situated as a Human Science and because this not be considered a truth. In these molds, the problem started existing: the great Psychological Schools of Thought were never able to overcome the dichotomy between subjectivity and objectivity. Then, following a determination of a scientific methodology of Liberalism, that meet the interests of the capitalism, Psychology understood the psychological phenomena as a “natural form” and because of that, it also understood the phenomena as a law that we cannot modified, just learn it. I understand that in such a historical moment in which psychology has its origin, it has been necessary. However, it is about time to criticize this reductionistic vision, by overcoming it.
Speaking now about the Psychoanalysis, I criticize it because the connotation that Freud gives in his theory that the Psychosexual stages of development (the Oedipal complex) are a mechanistic, naturalistic conception of the mind, being natural and universal. His theory certainly was very useful for his historical moment (Europe in the beginning of the 20th century) and even nowadays for people who can dedicate themselves to both an expensive and extensive analysis. I cannot agree that we generalize these concepts for other cultures, in other times. I think that overcoming the subjectivity/objectivity dichotomy (dichotomy that exists not only in the Psychoanalysis but also in other great Psychological Schools of Thought) is a sine qua non condition, because in this way we can be able to make progress in the speech.
I think that the proposal of the Sociohistorical Psychology, that thinks the overcoming of the dichotomy between the intra and the interpsychological by using the dialectic, is pertinent. Therefore, subjectivity is simultaneously social and individual. We become human beings when we interact socially and when we appropriate the culture it. So, when a person is born s/he is only one candidate to the humanity and becomes a human being converting the external world into intern, developing his/her personality sui generis: if the human being constructs him/herself, s/he constructs the reality. So, my choice for this school of psychology happens because I think that I must assume a position that does not understand the psychological health as an adaptation in the world. I believe in the possibility of transformation and confrontation of the reality that imposes itself.
Well dear, it is what I think.
Yours,

When people ask what psychoanalysis is, they usually want to know about treatment. As a therapy, psychoanalysis is based on the observation that individuals are often unaware of many of the factors that determine their emotions and behavior. These unconscious factors may create unhappiness, sometimes in the form of recognizable symptoms and at other times as troubling personality traits, difficulties in work or in love relationships, or disturbances in mood and self-esteem. Because these forces are unconscious, the advice of friends and family, the reading of self-help books, or even the most determined efforts of will, often fail to provide relief.

Psychoanalytic treatment demonstrates how these unconscious factors affect current relationships and patterns of behavior, traces them back to their historical origins, shows how they have changed and developed over time, and helps the individual to deal better with the realities of adult life.

Analysis is an intimate partnership, in the course of which the patient becomes aware of the underlying sources of his or her difficulties not simply intellectually, but emotionally – by re-experiencing them with the analyst. Typically, the patient comes four or five times a week, lies on a couch, and attempts to say everything that comes to mind. These conditions create the analytic setting, which permits the emergence of aspects of the mind not accessible to other methods of observation. As the patient speaks, hints of the unconscious sources of current difficulties gradually begin to appear – in certain repetitive patterns of behavior, in the subjects which the patient finds hard to talk about, in the ways the patient relates to the analyst.

The analyst helps elucidate these for the patient, who refines, corrects, rejects, and adds further thoughts and feelings. During the years that an analysis takes place, the patient wrestles with these insights, going over them again and again with the analyst and experiencing them in daily life, in fantasies, and in dreams. Patient and analyst join in efforts not only to modify crippling life patterns and remove incapacitating symptoms, but also to expand the freedom to work and to love. Eventually the patient’s life – his or her behavior, relationships, sense of self – changes in deep and abiding ways.

Kazim is son of Haji Munawar Ali Abbasi the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA from Larkana Sindh and nephew of Senator Safdar Abbasi. He is one of my closest friends and our frienship has roots in Cadet College Larkana. After completing his Higher Secondary School level (HSC) he joined the legal fraternity and it came to my knowledge today that he got arrested few days back while protesting against the proclamation of Emergency in Pakistan. Being very close to him, I know it for sure that it was not about anything else but his principles that he is facing all this. Moreover, the list of arrested workers of PPP is not showing his name so its quite evident that he is on jail journey in his individual capacity asserting his support to the suffering of us all.

(You can find other updates regarding situation in Pakistan on Awab’s blog by clicking here.)

What else I could say? Few days back I had imposed a bar on myself not to post about anything related to state of emergency in Pakistan but having heard this news I was not able to stop myself from writing all this. I want to ask a question, How long they will keep our mouths shut? I will not write more but will dedicate a poem by Faiz Ahmed Faiz to Kazim and all the others who are suffering by watering their commitments:

Hum Dekhain Gay
We shall see
Lazim Hai ke hum Bhi Dekhain Gay
It is necessary that we shall also see
Woh Din ke Jis ka Wadah Hai
That day which has been promised
Jo Loh-e-Azl pe Likha hai
Which is written with God’s ink
Hum Dekhain Gay
We shall see

Jab Zulm-o-Sitam ke Koh-e-garaan
When the mountains of cruelty and torture
Ruii ki Tarah Urd Jain Gay
Will fly like pieces of cotton
Hum Mehkumoon ke Paun Talay
Under the feet of the governed
Yeh Dharti Dhard Dhard Dhardkay gi
This earth will quake
Aur Ehl-e-Hukum ke Sar Uper
And over the head of the ruler
Jab Bijli kard Kard Kardke gi
When lightening will thunder
Hum Dekhain Gay
We shall see

Jab Arz-e-Khuda ke kabay se
When from God’s Mecca
Sab but Uthwaaiy Jain gay
All the idols will be shattered
Hum Ehl-e-Safa Mardood-e-Haram
Us people standing in the mosque
Masnad pe Bithaaiy jain gay
Will be elevated to a higher platform
Sab Taaj Uchalay jain gay
All the crowns will be tossed
Sab Takht Giraaiy Jain gay
All the thrones will be toppled

Bas Naam rahay Ga Allah ka
Then only God’s name will remain
Jo Ghayab Bhi hai Hazir Bhi
Who is both absent and present
Jo nazir bhi hai manzar bhi
Who is both the observer and the view itself
Uthay ga Analhaq ka Naara
When the anthem of truth will be raised
Jo Main bhi Hun aur Tumbhi ho
Who I am and you are as well
Aur Raaj karay gi khalq-e-Khuda
And the people of God will reign
Jo main bhi hun aur tum bhi ho
Who I am and you are as well

Hum Dekhain Gay
We shall see
Lazim Hai ke hum Bhi Dekhain Gay
It is necessary that we shall also see
Hum Dekhain Gay
We shall see
