Hello Dear Friends,

I will in this thread share with you my experience of CSS exams. I have cleared the written part of CSS exams in my first attempt and I already know that I am going to be allocated for 39th Commons Training Program. In other words my seat is confirmed because (fortunately) I am from Sindh (Urban).

My Background

I am a son of an army officer. I have been a very spoiled person. I never took interest in academic activities but managed to complete my BBA (hons. in Marketing) and MBA (HRM) from Szabist Karachi. All my life I have been facilitated by my father in ‘getting things done’ my way. But for the CSS, there was no ‘sifarish’ and no way to rely on my father’s charm. So I had to apply myself and utilized all my energies to their full potential.

My Journey to the CSS

Since 7th grade I have been doing three things consistently; listening to all kinds of music, playing guitar and reading Dawn Newspaper. So my listening and reading skills were always getting better as the years passed by. These two skills ultimately proved to be my biggest assets.

In the year 2008, my father got me into National Accountability Bureau as a grade 17 investigation officer. During my NAB interview, the General advised me, “although you are being selected but this job is not for you son. Spend some time here and get the exposure but you must go for CSS exams. You can do it son. Just commit to it and apply yourself.” My listening skills were playing their part. So I quit NAB within a year and went on to explore the world of CSS. My reading skills helped me in that regard.

Exams Preparation

I selected the following optional subjects after thorough analysis

Indo Pak History (it covers Pakistan affairs and is also useful for current affairs)
Political Science (I am deeply in love with this subject. It automatically covers constitutional law. It also helps in essay and in my case it helped me in Islamiat paper as well. Plus it provides a great arsenal of quotations)
Constitutional Law (Easy to prepare and a very useful subject for CSS)
Business Administration (It was a natural choice as I am an MBA)

I was told by many seniors to drop history and political science and instead go for scoring subjects like geography, sociology, journalism etc. But I stuck to my decision. I believe one should go for those subjects that one finds interesting, enjoyable and easy to prepare without considering the scoring trends)

I started making my own notes in August 2009 and finished this process by mid November 2009. After that I started the revision process and never looked back.

Now I am going to share some useful tips regarding Compulsory Subjects.

Essay

Just stick to the basics which are:
1.   solid but brief outline covering all the aspects of topic
2.   reasonable opening and a sound conclusion.
3.   paragraphs must be equal in length
4.   paras must be cohesive and one para must deal with one topic at a time
5.   the opening words of a para must match the words in outline. To make it more clear have a look at the following outline on the topic “Global Warming”:

1.2. Greenhouse gases
1.3. Greenhouse effect

2. Causes of global warming
2.1. Ice ages theory
2.2. Ocean activity theory
2.3. Sunspot activity theory

3.1. Rising of the sea level
3.2. Changing climate and weather patterns

• Subsidies against taxes

• planting and protecting the forests

Now the opening para should be like…

(1. The Sky is Falling) —–> From outline.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling! Growing up we heard this phrase in folktales as a “wolf cry”. A cry that is so ridiculous that nobody would believe it. Now that global warming is a major environmental issue, the saying doesn’t sound so out of place. Most people might say: what is global warming? But if they look around and observe the environment around them then they might find the answer to this question. Years are becoming warmer and weather patterns are finding it difficult to stay at the same course. The changes are small so far, but these are expected to accelerate uncontrollably. Within the next fifty to hundred years the earth may be much hotter place than it has been in past million years.  However, the real question is why this is happening and what is the connection of humanity with global warming?

(1.2. Global Warming) —–> From outline.
Global warming is commonly referred to as an increase in the temperature of the lowest layers of Earth’s atmosphere. Scientists estimate that average temperature could climb up to two degree Celsius in twenty years time because of global warming. Global warming has occurred in the distant past as the result of natural influences, but the term is most often used to refer to the warming predicted to occur as a result of increased emissions of greenhouse gases………. ……………..and so on…

In my view diagrams and headings must be avoided in an essay.

Précis and Composition

Prepare and solve the last 10-20 past papers. “Exploring the world of English” by Saadat Ali Shah is the ultimate authority regarding English papers i.e. essay and composition.

General Knowledge

Everyday Science

For objective portion prepare all the MCQs from 1990 to the last paper.
For subjective Kashmiri’s book and past papers are enough.

Current Affairs

Dawn Newspaper especially the editorial section and the articles. Read the news and topic of the editorial and then try to write your own editorial on that news topic. Then match with the Dawn’s editor. Other sources like internet, TV, mags etc are also very useful.

Pakistan Affairs

I only covered the topics before1947 Independence of Pakistan. Learn by heart all the dates and events. Draw a timeline and memorize it. All the events from 1857 to 1947 must be crystal clear to you. Also cover all the prominent religious and political personalities like Mujadid Alf Sani, Sha Wali Ullah, Haji Shariatullah, Syed Ahmed Shaheed, Dudhu Mian, Sir Syed, Allama Iqbal, Quaid e Azam, Liaqat Ali Khan etc. Read all the events after 1947 at least once.

Islamiat

Only attempt in Urdu if you are 110% confident otherwise always go for English. I prepared Islamiat in Urdu for about a month but when I saw the paper, I instantly decided to attempt in English. I was damn right. This year Islamiat has proved to be a disaster for those who attempted this paper in Urdu. Anyway, go for English and at least learn 15 – 20 verses by heart with correct chapter and verse references. Memorize 6 to 8 verses in Arabic as well with English translation.

Some Suggestions

The best course of action is to prepare own notes. Consult at least three different sources for preparing an answer to a particular question. Also search the Internet for your answers.

I suggest that one should prepare three types of notes for a particular question. That are; full length notes, short notes (only headings and main points in bullet form) and code notes (code words for headings and main points).

Take command of your subject. You should strive to become an authority on your subjects. Always be willing to walk an extra mile. Consistent hard work, determination and will to succeed are the key ingredients for success in CSS. Tell yourself that failure is not an option for you. Write as much as possible on blank papers. Test yourself by randomly choosing a question from any past paper and try to solve it.

Save the last month before exams for revision.

Never use fancy words. Just write in simple readable English. Avoid overuse of quotations, poetry, diagrams, idioms, jargons etc. Such things only waste the time and create confusion. Stick to the basics please.

Go out for running, walking, jogging for at least 30 mins 5 days a weak. Eat healthy food and sleep minimum 8 hours everyday.

Most importantly say your prayers and ask Allah to open up your mind. Constantly seek your Lord’s help, mercy and blessings. Believe in yourself and have blind faith in Allah’s help. Inshallah success will be yours in the exams.

1. Broadly speaking only three months are left for the preparation. I, time and again, emphasize that for CSS preparation, time management is the key to success. Since only three months are left, aspirants need to recalculate the time at hand and study burden. Once done with it, they must distribute the time accordingly.

2. In my personal view, I would say that aspirants must target the Feb 15, 2010 as the deadline and keep rest of the 15 days till commencement of examinations for revision, relaxation and final touches. I and many of the qualified fellows had the similar strategy.

3. The writing practice once again is important. Try to practice writing as much as you can.

4. By Feb 2010, the papers must be final. So, give secondary importance to new current affairs items. Read daily Dawn for follow up and developments on the older issues and spend more time on other subjects and writing practice.

Having passed Central Superior Services (CSS) Examination Pakistan, I feel that, simply studying is not enough. We need to understand the art of passing it and it is only possible when one has a guide who can provide him with timely advice on preparation related issues. To me appearing in CSS is a separate decision from deciding the field of study. You must take in account to what will happened if by any chance you are going to fail in all the three attempts of CSS. Please don’t take it as an offence, I only want to point it out that at times things do not take the shape as we want them to take and in such a situation, your degree qualification will help you out. Therefore, please do not base the decision of your studies solely on CSS. I think you are carrying my point. I wish you all the very best for your future in your preferred field.

I am glad that you want to serve your country, but decision is all yours. In my personal case, I was serving in WHO international before qualifying CSS 2007 and I had many options but I preferred staying in Pakistan. In your case, it is all about your personal choice.

is it true that there is an age relaxation for two years and now a person can appear in the CSS exams till the age of 30.

Iam a graduate in Business Admin, now doing my MBA and after lots of thought regarding my career.. I have come upon the decision of preparing for the CSS examination.
I need to inquire regarding two things, First being, iam a shortsighted girl, with an eyesight of -5.00 for both the right and the left eye, and I am interested in the Foreign services field, am i not eligible for it because of my eyesight?

and secondly, I dont agree with having to cram history, why doesnt the board think of revising the syllabi and on the whole make it more intellectual based?

You are o.k for Foreign services of Pakistan being short sighted. You can take a look at the precedent of Saima Saleem, who is blind and passed the CSS 2007 and is allocated with a seat in Foreign Services of Pakistan. About FPSC revising the Syllabus, this is long discussion and beyond the scope of this post, so we can discuss it latter or you might consider writing a guest post in this context for my blog. You need to stick around with your routine of reading daily dawn and your word power will built progressively and you will come to understand every word of it in long run. About map, all you need to do is that when you read some news of some foreign country, kindly see if you can find it on map, once you have found it on map, have a look at the boundaries of the country and other countries bordering it. 1. This will be the biggest mistake you will ever commit. Freezing your studies will not help in any way. So better continue it and latter you can give CSS a try.

2. To me officers academy Lahore is preferable, it might be the other way around with somebody else but if I had to choose I would have dealt it that way.

3. Your subject selection is at par if you have genuine interest in them.

The application forms are available at the provincial and regional offices of Federal Public Service commission. For details and address of these offices at their website of Federal Public Service commission can be accessed here. About which group can be good for you, I would say it is a matter of personal choice. To me Police Service of Pakistan was at par for others other groups can have that place. You need to ask this question from your good self. Good luck.

Is it neccessery to visit an academy.

In my point of view reading text books can be enough to appear in CSS rest everything has the relative importance and it varies from individual to individual. One can not generalize anything same is the case with going to academy for preparation. I went, many of my friends went to one or the other academy, I passed, many others passed and many failed too so it is not a rule that one should go to some academy. To me, it is best decision I ever too, I learnt a lot. Now it is going to be your personal choice. If you can prepare at your own there is nothing better than that. I wish you all the best.

About you query, I would say the two subjects of English Precis and Essay require lots of practice and it is only practice that can help you sail smoothly so go ahead. The choice of method for preparation varies from individual to individual and I can not answer this question completely. I can only suggest or answer it relatively. In my point of view, it is all about your ability and choice. In my case, I opted for an academy for 2 and a half months and after that I was set to go. I would suggest you that you must consider your limitations and possibilities and then decide. About academy in Islamabad, please visit FAQ section of this site and you will find a page with list of academies and tutors around. I wish you all the best.

I am a final year student of chmical engineering. I have heard that one cannot take the css exam in the same year one completed the degree. Is it true?
Also tell me which is the best time for me to take up css exams as I am supposed to complete my degree by the upcoming March.
Can I continue preparing for css during the job afterwards? or it will be better to join the academy? Please reply early and thank you in advance

One more thing you must know, in case you are not able to make it to CSS, you still have life. As far as Indo-Pak History is concerned, I am facing problem to purchase it .though Pak history by K. Ali both volumes is not available in Karachi, Lahore,Rawalpindi and even in Islamabad, as I contact through phone on their relevant online Book Store. So May I have these books (Vol-I & Vol-II of Indo-Pak History) from your side. I assure you to return you these books after getting photocopy of it. If you don’t have these books, then please let it confirm from your fellows, as I have not that much interaction with CSS fellows.

I have decided to appear in CSS for the first time in my life but I have only two chances because my age is 26. I have problem regarding subject selection. I did my Matriculation with Science subjects, HSSC in Psychology, Education and Fine arts, Graduation in English literature and Journalism and Masters in English Linguistics and Literature. I learnt that English Literature in CSS is not a point scoring subject. People don’t recommend it but I saw the syllabus and found it rather easy. What would be your word about that? Let me tell you also that I am very poor at remembering dates so history of any sort is not at all my cup of tea whether it be pak studies or world history. Also tell me they way to grab at current affairs; newspapers and our JALEBI-LIKE politics confuse me alot. Im unable to understand their games, strategies and statements. In my personal view, you must go for your master degree since degree courses are more important than CSS. Once you are done with it, you can still appear in CSS but you must remember that maximum age for CSS is 28 years so stay careful about it.

1 Mr. Jafri taught me how to attempt the paper not only of his subject of Indo & Pakistan history but his principles applied to all the subject(please sir write me and explain the principles of attempting a paper)

2 Quotations narrated by Mr Jafri back during classes. He taught us to deal the questions by giving as many quotations as possible. He gave us idea about the relative importance of topics and helped us a lot.(is it specific quotition?)

3. I use to practice drawing the world map and practically did the same in my papers too.

4. I didn’t followed any of the notes available with the academy but learnt a great deal of stuff regarding how to approach the questions in the Examination

Going to academy is a good idea, there you will atleast have an idea about your mistakes. I would recommend you to go for an academy or a tutor both options are good because CSS 2009 is your last attempt and it is better to play safe. To me, 6 months are enough if you are putting all your energies into it. I wish you all the best.

It is a pleasure to help you out but please understand my limitations; I can not respond to everyone on his/her mailing ID so please do not request so.  Now lets get to your queries, the selection of subjects is a matter of personal choice. In my view choosing a 200 or 100 marks subjects is no important, the most important thing is your aptitude and interest. Apart from this I have taken up your question similar other queries CSS FAQs section of this blog. The CSS FAQs can be accessed by clicking here and you will find loads of information. I wish you all the best.

Here, I would like to let you know that as soon as the result of CSS 2008 was announced, few of those who are punctual readers of Silence and have passed the CSS 2008, rang me up asking for guidance regarding Psychological Assessment, Interview and medical fitness examination. I told them to wait for few days so that I can write a detailed post sharing my experience with them and others who want to prepare for these tests. So, keeping up with my promise with those worthy qualifiers, here you go with my experience  and tips for preparation of CSS interview, Psychological test and medical fitness test. I wish it helps.

Summary:

• The Medical Fitness Examination takes place in a month after announcement of result of written examination of CSS.
• The Psychological Assessment test and grand interview takes place by two months after announcement of result of written examination of CSS.
• For Psychological Assessment tests, it is a good idea to go through Kaplan Maths work book for GRE, different Psychometric test available free online and Emotional Intelligence Tests also available free online.
• For interview, the preparation is the way you have already prepared for Current Affairs paper.

Medical Fitness Examination for CSS Candidates

Passing written portion of CSS examination is like a dream come true but with passing the written there starts a race for preparation of interview and psychological test. In our case (i.e. CSS 2007), our result was announced on 24^th day of month of September in 2007. After that we happened to receive an official letter from Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) telling us that we happened to qualify the CSS written examination. Latter, in about a month, we were asked to get some routine tests (Blood CP, Urine DR. Hepatitis ‘B’ and ‘C’ screening and X-ray chest) done from specified Medical facilities. In case of Karachi, it was JPMC and we were asked provide the report on a specified day in Federal Medical Directorate in Karachi where we were further examined by a Panel. Apart from this, those who were having the weak eye sight were required to bring in the eye-sight prescription and produce it before the panel. On the days of medical fitness examination, we were required to report at the specified location at about 9 AM. There, we were given a form and we were asked to fill it. In the form, few questions regarding family history of certain illnesses and allergies were asked. After sometime, we are required to get checked up by the doctor there. This is how our medical fitness examination was done. Those who were over-weight or under-weight were required to reduce or put-on weight and were asked to appear before medical board on a date that was communicated to the candidates through standard mail. 

Psychological Assessment of CSS Candidates

After medical fitness examination, around two months latter we happened to appear in Psychological tests and interview at Karachi. As I told you earlier that our result was announced on September 24, 2007, so two months latter means on November 20-23, 2007, we took the Psychological assessment tests in Karachi. Once you will open the link to the Psychological assessment test that I happened to under go you will notice the following things:

Psychological Assessment of CSS candidates is based on standard Psychometric Testing and it comprises Numerical Computation, Numerical Estimation, Data interpretation, Numerical Critical Reasoning, Spelling, word meaning, word relationships, comprehension, personality tests and so on.

In Psychological Assessment tests, you need to answer some surprise questions like favorite books, personalities and so on. So, you need to stay prepared for it.

By now when you have the idea to what comes in Psychological test, you know the potential areas where you need to put the effort so that you can perform well.

In my case, I had the preparation for these aspects by going through the Kaplan Maths workbook for GRE that is easily available in Market. It really helped me a good deal. Apart from this, for personality tests and other related test, I happened to search internet and was able to find very good websites offering a good deal of material to improve the personality test results. Interview of the CSS Candidates

Once you are done with Psychological Assessment, you are required to appear for the final interview before a panel that comprises of Chairman FPSC and two or more member. You can find the sample interviews of Candidates who happened to qualify CSS in 2007 at the link given below:

For preparation of interview, there is no particular advice since it is general in nature. All I would say is that it is like preparing for Current Affairs paper and you need to study newspaper and review the backgrounds of all the national and international issues.

Before ending my post, I would advice you to please try to make a network of friends who have qualified the CSS 2008 and interact. In our case, we happened to contact all my group fellows who were there in group discussion and role play before hand. It helped our group a lot because we had discussed the strategy in advance and it gave space to all without creating a mess. Its productivity can be seen by its reflection on our result that three out of three positions in Sindh (R) were from our group and we three got allocated in our group of choice that is PSP. So please do not underestimate this advice of mine.

I think by going through this post, you have a basic idea that what should you expect in the Psychological Assessment Tests, Interview and Medical Fitness test. I think if you will prepare well, you will definitely make it to your desired group, I wish you all the very best.

The exams in most of the cases are held every year and dates are announced by Federal Public Service Commission Islamabad (FPSC). For CSS 2009, it is announced by FPSC that exams will be held in March 2009. About Subjects selection, I would advice you to go through the complete list of all the subjects and jot down the subjects of your interest. Latter, get hold of the past papers of subjects you find interesting and keeping in view the question in those past papers, you can easily make the decision. To me, all subjects are scoring; all you need is your personal interest. This was true for me when I am looking back at my experience. In my point of view, if you want to prepare by yourself, you can do so easily by buying the relevant book. Apart from this, Internet is a very good source of material that is of current importance related to your subjects and off course current affairs. So you can use this media to gain access to wealth of information available with sites like Wikipedia, BBC, CNN and so on. About notes, actually I don’t believe in using notes of others. If you have time and ability, you can prepare your own notes keeping in view your requirements and abilities and it will provide you with a great help when you are appearing in examination.

Dear Javed,

The books you have specified are good enough for preparation. In case of Pakistan Affairs, I personally think that Rabbani is not sufficient so you should better find some other title and I am sure you will get one easily from market. Personally, I followed the book by Sohail Bhatti named Pakistan Affairs and use to recommend the same but you must know that you do not need to read it completely, all you need to do is prepare for the topics of relevance and customize them for your use during limited time available in actual exam.

i have a confusion with english compostion , for enlish idioms, i remember everyday 5 idioms and 5 phrasal verbs which will make in total 1200 idioms and 1200 phrasal verbs till the end feb,2009 InshahAllah.And in my opinion its very easy and appropriate way.my question is this , am doing right? beacause when i discused this strategy to one CSS Officer he replied you must remeber atleast 50 to 100 idioms everyday and finish this job within a month

My personal opinion about Idioms and related material is a bit different. English is a very rich language and one can not cram all about it in limited available when preparing for CSS. So, I would suggest that if you are planning to remember most significant idioms from Examination point of you, you should customize this thing as per you needs and abilities. To me your strategy is no less that what you are told by some fellow who is a qualifier. So go ahead with you own way only then you will be able to do it properly else I wonder if you could ever follow the strategy told to you by your qualifier friend. This is how I feel about it and I may be wrong.

True you are when you are telling me that there are so many books available in Market for compulsory subjects, what I will suggest you that do not get confused, sit back relax and plan a day for shopping of books. It may take sometime to choose the ideal book for yourself but once you have selected the proper book for yourself, it is rewarding. I mean only you can select the best book for yourself. Let me give you an example, for most of the CSS aspirants, Exploring the world of English stays a book of prime importance but for me it is not true since this book is/was not meeting my needs so I preferred other option that is High School Grammar by Wren and Martin with idioms and other related things from some other books available in the market. This is how I see it. So, you need to spend sometime in market, go and have a look at all the titles available in market, have a look at the contents, have some feel by reading a topic or two from the book then and there and decide. This is the sincerest advice I can give you else for your satisfaction I would have listed some titles and you would have followed them blindly ending in damage and in extreme cases loss in face of failure. So go ahead, listen to your needs only then you will be able to decide what is good for you? It is a good idea to plan ahead but I think in your case you need to concentrate on your Pre-Medical studies first. It is the crucial time for you when you can make or break your career. See, CSS is an examination not a degree and you only get three chances to pass it and once you could not make it to the Public Services of Pakistan, your degree can save you a good deal. So it is my sincere and brotherly advice to you to embark upon a course that is career savvy. Apart from this, you can take along your CSS preparation too. Thank you so very much for your kind words. In my point of view, studying towards masters in Economics and preparing for CSS side by side is the best strategy. While you are studying for your master degree, you can keep an eye over the current affairs, apart from this; you can practice writing and improve your skills with answering the question in written section of the CSS examination. This is what I think rest you have to decide. Mind it, CSS is not a degree so it is not a good idea to give priority to CSS over degree courses and examinations. Good luck!

Yes a graduate aged 28 or less can appear in the examination so in my point of view if you are of the age you can apply for CSS. About Subject selection, I would say, you need to look at your interest first, you can get hold of the list of subject, jot down those subject that you find interesting and you do have some previous knowledge, have a look at the past papers of the subjects of your interest, if you find it easy to deal the questions in past papers, choose the subject and start preparing. In my point of view choosing the subjects of your choice is the best thing that you can do with yourself. About the books of compulsory subjects, please refer to my reply in this column to similar question by Sobia, it will help you a good deal. I am glad to know that you are one of those aspirants who are to the point and going in perfect direction. I hope if you continue following the same logic attitude towards your preparation, you will make it to your destination. Now about one book Policy for preparation, I strongly believe in it and I would recommend it to all the others too. I have noticed that you do have the similar subjects as I had when I prepared and appeared (except Sociology). The choice of books is all about personal needs so I would say that you can follow the book that you prefer about me, let me tell you my choice of books, in Public Admin, I followed Sultan Khan’s Public Administration and Personnel Administration; in India and Pakistan History, I followed K. Ally; in Journalism, I followed Mass Communication by Imtiaz Shahid; in IR, I followed Prakash Chandra and since Sociology was not my subject but I have seen some qualifiers following Sociology by A. Hameed Taga. About newspaper, it is ok if you are reading The News, there is no hard and fast rule that you should read Dawn but I would point it out that The Friday Feature of Dawn is must read sort of thing for Islamiyat paper and you must read selected feature from Dawn since I found them very helpful for me. The write ups by Shahid J Burki are a complete resource for Essay paper when Essay is related to economics. Apart from this, Ardeshir Cowasjee has a very lucid style of writing so it can shed a very positive effect on your written skills and so on so forth. About Academy and tutor in Islamabad, I know about national officers Academy, I do not know about rest.

The maximum age for CSS is 28 years. About comparison of ACCA with CSS, it is a matter of personal choice. I know that ACCA qualified individuals are very well paid and as for as CSS qualified individuals are concerned, they have meager salaries but they have a good deal of power at their disposal. Moreover, ACCA takes a good deal of time to get qualified but CSS takes no more than 6 months if prepared well. These are few points that can give you a proper idea. Go ahead, think 101 times about your priorities and decide only than you can reach to a logical outcome based on your needs and cabilities.

I am glad that you want to join civil services of Pakistan. As for as subject selection is concerned it is a matter of personal interest and one can guide you in limited capacity. For preparation of Current Affairs, the best option is ready Daily Dawn punctually and practice writing about the issues of current importance. My experience suggests that in current affair paper, the examiners are interest to observe your skills to analyze the issue of current significance and one can master this skill by reading the news, editorials and features being published. Apart from this, you must get hold of wall size World map and Pakistan’s map and try to relate the news with map it will help you understand the very important aspect of current affairs that deals with geo-political importance of different issues. The forms are not yet available. I think they will be available in Jan 2009 and it will be advertised by FPSC in all the major dailies of Pakistan. The same will be available on FPSC website. Apart from this, the exams as per advertisement of FPSC are scheduled to take place in March 2009 (until advertised otherwise).

The examinations are held every year through out Pakistan in selected cities including Karachi. Recently, I have come to know about an institute at Karachi named national officer academy. I don’t know about its success and impact but I have heard the some CSPs are teaching there. Apart from this, one of the worthy user of this blog reported that they are still trying to organize things. This is all I know about institute in Karachi for that. I think you must visit this academy, they are offering classes for free for initial three days, once there, try to observe things and decide about joining it or not.

My sincerest prayers and wishes are with you. Now coming to your query, to me all the subjects are scoring provided studied with heart and soul. Take my example, I happened to score very good marks in Indo-Pak (i.e. 128) because I had interest and I prepared well so don’t worry, if you have interest in these subjects and you are determined, you can do ahead and Inshahallah you will make it. About online resource/course for preparation, I haven’t yet found any such place so I can not offer any assistance in this regards.

First of all I want to clear one thing; group allocation is not related to subject selection for written examination. So, please do not relate these two things. Subject selection and allocation of group are two different domains. Initially you need to pass the written examination and that’s all. Hello Sir…I want to ask from u…dat does it really matter to have a very strong and good background..i mean da secondary and higher secondary grades….cuz i’ve done my O/A level wid somewhat average grades…but now m doing my bachelors in Business Management and completed my 3 years…and m fond of takin a competition exam….CSS dat is….Im goin good with bachelors having my CGPA above 3.2 from da total of 4….so i want to ask dat, will dat previous academic record really counts alot or is it OK?

The time required for preparation varies from individual to individual, I happened to prepare in 5 and half months, some of my fellows prepare in lesser time and so on so it is really a matter of personal capacity to prepare. About coming back to Pakistan or not, well again it is personal choice, you know your dos and do nots better so you can decide what is better for you. About seats, well yes, no. of jobs are directly related to availability of seats.

About announcement of result, we no body can say it for sure to when it is going to get announced so all I know are rumors and I don’t want to spread them any further. About changing your priority for group, don’t worry you will get a chance to change the group priorities if you pass and before interview but then it will be one last chance to change no changes latter so stay careful when making any decision to change. Dear Mehtab Ahmad,

Well to me both things are equally good but you must know that CSS is not a degree examination and you can avail only three chance pass it so you must have a back up plan in case you could not make it to CSP. Now it is up to you if you have a backup plan of becoming a Doctor or something else with you I.R. degree.
