I have recently passed Masters in Economics in First division and B.Com in second division both from the University of Peshawar. I would like to appear for the CSS exams in 2009. Please let me know:
From where to obtain application forms in Peshawar and on which date
Of the following three, which would be most suitable for me:
District Management Group (DMG)
Foreign Services of Pakistan (FSP)
Accounts group
I am also undergoing certification course from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK and have cleared five papers.

The application forms are available at the provincial and regional offices of Federal Public Service commission. For details and address of these offices at their website of Federal Public Service commission can be accessed here. About which group can be good for you, I would say it is a matter of personal choice. To me Police Service of Pakistan was at par for others other groups can have that place. You need to ask this question from your good self. Good luck.
Is it neccessery to visit an academy.

In my point of view reading text books can be enough to appear in CSS rest everything has the relative importance and it varies from individual to individual. One can not generalize anything same is the case with going to academy for preparation. I went, many of my friends went to one or the other academy, I passed, many others passed and many failed too so it is not a rule that one should go to some academy. To me, it is best decision I ever too, I learnt a lot. Now it is going to be your personal choice. If you can prepare at your own there is nothing better than that. I wish you all the best.

If you never went to appear and marked present in any of the papers, you haven’t lost a chance and you have all of them. Good luck.

If the cut off date for CSS 2009 is Dec 31, 2008, you are not eligible since you will not attain the age of 21 by then.

About you query, I would say the two subjects of English Precis and Essay require lots of practice and it is only practice that can help you sail smoothly so go ahead. The choice of method for preparation varies from individual to individual and I can not answer this question completely. I can only suggest or answer it relatively. In my point of view, it is all about your ability and choice. In my case, I opted for an academy for 2 and a half months and after that I was set to go. I would suggest you that you must consider your limitations and possibilities and then decide. About academy in Islamabad, please visit FAQ section of this site and you will find a page with list of academies and tutors around. I wish you all the best.
I am a final year student of chmical engineering. I have heard that one cannot take the css exam in the same year one completed the degree. Is it true?
Also tell me which is the best time for me to take up css exams as I am supposed to complete my degree by the upcoming March.
Can I continue preparing for css during the job afterwards? or it will be better to join the academy? Please reply early and thank you in advance

One can appear in CSS as soon as he is graduate no such bar exist as mentioned by you in your query. Best time to do CSS is every one’s personal decision same is the case for you. About joining an academy, again it is matter of personal choice. I wish you all the best.

I can very well understand to what you might be going through. I have seen many good fellows of mine who succumbed to such remarks and in fact if they had fought back they would have been the victors so don’t worry. I know one thing that those who are not afraid of going uphill and fight the winds stay successful in long term. No matter, what they say, stay focused and you will win. One more thing you must know, in case you are not able to make it to CSS, you still have life. Think about it and you will come to know that there are many good even better than CSS options are available. Apart from it, at the moment you need to focus and you will achieve what you want to achieve Inshahallah. Good luck!

Hi Dr.Farrukh it’s me again for asking alot of Q’s from u ,during the last month i practiced to write as much as possible but on self assessment i feel that still i’m weak in writing. Sir, I’m Sammar Ellahi. Currently, I’m pursuing MBA from SZABIST, Karachi. My DOB is 18/Aug/1984. So I have 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012 to attempt CSS. My MBA ends in May, 2010 that means that I can attempt CSS in 2011 & 2012 only. I can not study for CSS in parallel to MBA. It is generally considered that most people do not pass CSS in 1st attempt & are able to do it in 2nd or 3rd attempt.
MOST MOST IMPORTANT FOLLOWING QUESTION
Q.1 Should I “FREEZE” my MBA & go for CSS or CONTINUE it ??
I’m in the middle of MBA degree. Should I freeze it in middle & go for CSS & give all 3 attempts of 2010, 2011 & 2012. If selected join civil service, otherwise come back after 2012 & complete MBA degree. As there is no AGE LIMIT to do MBA, unlike CSS. Plus, SZABIST provides a very flexible degree structure & I can easily get permission to join MBA after 3 years BREAK.
What should I do???
Q.2 Officer’s Academy, Lahore Vs English language professor??
One of my CSS aspirant friend is studding from a professor for English Essay & English Composition papers. According to him, you do not need to join Academy. Because, if you study at academy your whole day will go in waste & won’t be able to take time for self-study. Whereas, if you are able to develop a good written expression by studying from any renowned English teacher you can clear CSS as rest of the subjects are a PLAIN STUDY.
Q.3 How is my subject selection of following subjects??
1) Indo-Pak History (inter-related to Pakistan Affairs paper)
2) International Relations (helps in Current Affairs)
3) Geography (personal interest, but no background)
4) Journalism (high scoring subject & comparatively small course)

Thats really great that you r doing ur MBA . but i guess u must complete ur MBA first .Though the chances for appearing in the CSS will reduce to 2 but u still got your MBA degree right. and by the Way if u worked hard then i am 100% sure u will succeed on the 1st attempt . Don,t worry about that. Hard and Smart work is the Key to success. as far as the combination of subjects is concerned so you must know that the Indo Pak History is not a small subject , u can easily take guidence form the Question Papers from The FPSC website , First see the papers then make a choice and decision. u r a better judge of your abilities and of yourself .

Faeza thats a gr8 news that u have shown ur willingness to attemp for the upcoming CSS exams . i appreciate ur this decision but i must inform u that u must get ur self enrolled with the fpsc by submitting the forms because the time is running out and 1st of jan is the last date .So this gives u very much less time in deciding about the subjects in which you will take ur exams. u must think about the subjects u can find each and every important detail from the website mentioned above . if both of you need any assistance i will be honoured to help you out.
