Salam sir,

you had replied my previous mail and had asked about my optional subjects, which i had mailed but m doing that again, optionals are:
ecnonmics,
statistics,
international relations
journalism
sociology.

Ashfaq

Dear Ashfaq,

I hope you are fine. About your optional subjects, I think if you have interest in them, definitely you will earn very good marks. I had International relations and Journalism as my optional subjects and my experience with them is very good and I hope the same with you too. Good luck!

Sir, You didn’t Reply about academy in Karachi Do you Know any ?

And Please Let me Know from what books you studied i’ll be really very thankful to you..am really anxious:(

Shumaila

Dear Shumaila,

About academy in Karachi, I have heard the national officers academy of Islamabad has started its Karachi branch so check with them and must discuss about faculty. I wish it helps.

Sir i thank you a lot. Your reply cleared my confusions. I am really thankful. I want to ask that which book is the best for “journalism” and “indo-pak History”? Please do tell me if you have an idea.

Maria

Dear Maria,

I am glad that you got your confusion cleared. About book of Journalism, I would recommend ‘Mass communication’ by Imtiaz Shahid and ‘Journalism for all’ by Prof. Dr. Mehdi Hassan. Regarding Indo-Pak History, Two volumes by K Aly and a book named Pakistan Affairs by Sohail Bhatti can help. The book by Sohail Bhatti is also good for Pakistan Affairs paper too.

I have heard that there is a possibility on the age relaxation of CSS for up to 2 years. any news on this?

Aamir

Dear Aamir,

Such rumors stays there as always what I would suggest that you must concentrate on your studies instead of listening to all such rubbish unless a notification by competent authority is not there. I wish you all the best.

Asalam-o-alaikum Sir,

It is my first exposure to the kind of information and coordination provided in this way. I have done my masters in Defence & strategic Studies. Iam currently working in PAEC but I plan to go for CSS. Your good advice and guidance is required.

Thank You.

Maryam Baba

Dear Maryam,

Welcome on board Silence. We will be more than happy to help you out. What I would suggest you at the moment that you must read my previous columns and if you have any further queries, do let me know and it will be a pleasure to assist you. I wish you good luck and keep coming back.

Hi my name is noman I am currently doing bs(economics) but I want to do css. I wanted to know that if I done css what jobs can I get and what is the chance of becoming a bueruacat(spalling mistake). Kindly give me some hints about css

Noman

Dear Noman,

Once you clear this examination, there is no doubt that you will not be a bureaucrat. About job, after passing your examination and training you will be inducted in civil services of Pakistan as grade 17 officer in some occupational group or service like District management Group and Police service of Pakistan. About hints, you can read my previous columns and you can put forward any further queries that you consider worth asking.

Salam,
I am an over seas Pakistani living in US for the past 15 years. I have developed an interest to appear for CSS. But I am much disappointed about the age group limitaion. I have just turned 33. After reading the rules, I did not come across any rule that might help me to qualify. Now the question to you, is there any provision that I use to my advantage to be qualified?

Regards,

Faisal

Dear Faisal,

I am sorry that I have no knowledge of any such rule that you can use to your advantage.

dr sahb
plz give me ur email adress n fon no.i hav som qeries n need ur assistance

Lubna

Dear Lubna,

My email address is css.coaching@gmail.com, about phone no. at the moment, Silence is offering no such service.

Dear Sir,

Assalam-u-alikum. I hope u will be alright. Dear Sir,I asked one question about Foreign Service of Pakistan group. Can normal (belongs to poor or middle family) candidate who pass the CSS exam was selected vice consular for diplomatic quarter or not just like middle east or Europe Pakistani embassies or consulate. Because I hear that most of the candidates who select foreign service of Pakistan they given place at ministry of foreign affairs in Pakistan. Not overseas they only attest papers etc… Or it is just for a political reference who are go abroad in embassies????

One other question is about secretariat group. Is federal secretariat is that place where prime minister order comes first and then pass on to the public.

Thanks
Ammar
Saudi Arabia

Dear Ammar,

I hope you are dong fine. Regarding your query, I would say that yes people from middle and low income families who are meritorious can reach the point you have specified. About secretariat, I would say yes the secretariat is the place that facilitates any executive in his official work and same is the case with Prime Minister’s secretariat.

dear sir i am getting training in pakistan air force as an airmen after completing my bachelor degree can i apply for css exams and can i permit to get the no objection certificate from the pakistan air force and my unit

Jamshaid

Dear Jamshaid,

For those who are in service, NOC is required, see if you department is allowing it or not, if it is allowing it, yes you can appear in the examination else it is your luck. I wish you all the best.

sir i want to ask i like to do css now i am confoused that can i prepare css in 8months and which optional subject gain more marks

Mudassar

Dear Mudassar,

The time requirement for preparation varies from person to person; same is the case with you. It depends upon your ability to study. In my case 6 months are enough since I myself prepared and passed the examination in less the six months. About optional subject that can gain relatively more marks, I have always emphasized that the subjects you like more are scoring. See, I had Indo Pakistan History as my optional subjects; my friends use to tell me that it is not scoring but I happened to earn very good marks. So it is all about how you are studying? What you are studying? And if studying, are you interested whole heartedly in subject of your choice?

I am willing to appear in 2009. How do I go about ? I mean from where do I get the forms and other stuff ?

Rehan

Dear Rehan,

Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) use to announce the dates of availability of forms, last date of submission of form and examination in all the major dailies of the country. Apart from this, the forms are also available on their website. Once you see such an advertisement, you can get the form from designated offices of FPSC present in all the major cities of country.

I was wondering, Dr Farrukh, that according to my estimate, u passed yr written in 2007 and a year has passed already, when do you expect to join the academy. Isnt this the usual time span?

Birjees

Dear Birjees,

Yes you are right that passed CSS 2007, and I think our training will commence by end of this year. Uptill now, yes it is the usual practice. Lets hope for the best in future for others.

salam furrukh bha

how are you, could you suggest me how i can do preparation for css, Somebody said to me that css is totally depend upon writting skills either you tell me it is right or tell me what i ‘d do for. i hope you recognize me
waqar abro

Dear Waqar Abro,

I am fine and thanks for your concern. I can not explain every thing in just one column to how you can prepare for CSS for that matter I would recommend you to read all my columns and I hope it will help you to clear lots of confusions you might be facing. Now about written skills thing, who so ever has told you, he is very right. It is all about written skills when it comes to passing written portion of the examination. If you are practicing and polishing you written skills you will definitely get through it Inshahallah. Moreover, yes I do recognize you!

i have done recently my M.A English, and i want to join civil sevrices,i want to give exam of css, tell me some academy to join for preparations.

Sehrish

Dear Sehrish,

You have not specified any city to where you want to join an academy for preparation. Well if it is in Lahore, to me officers is the best else you can go for KIPS too. In Islamabad, National officers and Zavia are doing fine and in Karachi, National Officers has started its branch and I am not sure about them in Karachi. I wish it helps.

Syeda bismillaj rubab shamsi

Syeda Rubab Shamsi,

In your case, I would suggest you to first go through the rules and syllabus for CSS and then read all my column to get the basic confusion clear. Once you are done with it and if you have some queries, please do let me know, I will be a pleasure to assist you. I wish you all the best.

Assalamual;aikum.

Thanx

Qasim Khan

Dear Qasim Khan,

You can start your preparation with improving your general knowledge and written skill and for that matter you must start reading Daily Dawn punctually. To me daily Dawn is a very good source of information, not only this but you can get inspiration for writing too. In my case, I use to read it punctually and latter use to write articles on key news stories similarly if you feel like you can also go about it same way. I wish you all the best for your future.

Dear Sir,
I belong to Sindh Rural and planning to move Lahore for my preparation regarding CSS2009, Can some one guide me about the best acedemy/institute to join and reasonable accomodation. Waiting for ur quick response.

Mujeeb Rehman

Dear Mujeeb Rehman,

In Lahore, to me, officers academy is the best place since I myself prepared there. Apart from this KIPS is also there and choice is yours. About accommodation, you can ask for help from the academy you are joining. They use to have some decent options. Apart from this, you must not worry about accommodation since in Lahore you will find many bachelor hostels waiting for you. I wish you all the best.

Hi
Can you please tell me that, how can I get syllabus & how can I get books for preparation the C.S.S. Examination 2009. And please tell me the name of institute in Karachi who are preparing to the students for C.S.S. Exam.

Raja Kashif

Dear Raja Kashif

For Syllabus, you can click here. About books, you can get them from Urdu Bazar if you are in Karachi. About academies in Karachi, recently, I have heard that National officers academy of Islamabad has started its Karachi branch.

salaam sir i,m sonia doing graduation in arts subjects sir i want to do css plz tell me what i do and how i do preperation abt it and my date of birth is 22 april 1984 can i appear till 2010 or 11 in css exams

Sonia

Dear Sonia,

I am glad that you want to appear in CSS examination. Looking at your Date of Birth, I can say that you will be able to avail your attempts till 2012 since maximum age for CSS is 28 years and you will be 28 in 2012. For guidance regarding preparation, refer to my columns and you will be able to get many of your confusion cleared.

Can you please please please tellme how you are preparing for the viva? Or even what? I have absolutely no one to guide me and I dont really have much time. But I appeared for the exams and if by some great gift of Allah I manage to make it through, i wont know what to prepare for in the viva. So, plz just give me a hint of how to prepare. Thx a million

Mys Innocent

Dear Mys Innocent

In Viva, most of the questions are there to assess your personality and confidence so you must not worry too much about preparation. All I would suggest you is that believe in your self, keep yourself updated with current affairs with historical backgrounds of the issues. Apart from this, you can go for having a bird’s eye view of your optional subjects. That’s what I happened to do in my interview.

respected sir ,
i hove that you are fine, sir i am a student of M>PHIL from GC university i will appers in CSS exams .kindlly tell me Some important tips .plz reply me soon .thankx 4 serving precious time to read my mail;

Shafat Ali

Dear Shafat Ali

I am glad that you want to appear in CSS examination. First of all I would like to wish you all the best. Now about tips for preparation, I have written about different issues regarding preparation in my columns, I think reading them first can be a good start. Once you are done with them, come back and if you have any specific question, you can ask and I will be happy to assist you.

Hello sir i am graduate and i want to do css so please guige me through in doing css. Sir I am about to go to united states can you please guide me through if i go there still i would be able to do css from there or what are the requirements that i have to complete to do css from united states or is there any alternate course in united states.
Thank You
Faisal Rahman

Dear Faisal Rahman,

The CSS examination gets conducted in designated centers here in Pakistan only. No such precedent is in my knowledge when examination is conducted in some foreign center so in your case, you need to come to Pakistan for papers. About course well CSS has a defined syllabus and if you have reading material available, you can study any where in the world.

Sir,

select Islamic history or Indo-Pak history for me which one i take with political science, constitutional law and pashtoo

tell me suitable books regarding these subjects

thanks

Jahangir Khan

Dear Jahangir Khan,
For Indo-Pak history, I would suggest you to go for K ally’ Indo Pak History spread over two volumes and a book named ‘Pakistan Affair’ by Sohail Bhatti. About Political Science and Pushto, I have no clue at the moment.

    Dear Farrukh,
U have become a beacon of hope for every candidate who desires to appear in CSS exam. U r doing a commendable job.Ur motive for assistance is altruistic.Keep it up.

  5. Waheed Anwar Abro on August 4th, 2008 5:07 pm

I happened to go to National Officers Academy 2 days back.I was sad to know that their only motive for opening academy is money. They are charging exorbitant fee for all subjects. No matter a person wants to study for one subject or all he has to pay full fee. 2ndly, they have only 4 CSPs for all subjects. How can they teach the students and doing their jobs at the same time.
