I am glad to know that you are planning to appear in CSS exam. For CSS you don’t need to get admission in any institute. All you need is graduation and you are set to go. Every year FPSC announces the examination and an aspirant with graduation can get enrolled for the examination. The forms are available in regional offices and other offices of FPSC in all the major cities including

I am glad that you are planning ahead and it will provide you sufficient time prepare well. About your query regarding English Essay and composition papers, I think you need to practice your written skill to polish them. I would suggest you to develop a habit of reading some newspaper in English as well as books to give your self a boost. Apart from it, you need to develop a habit of writing diary too so that you can have an ability to pen down your ideas clearly and to the point. This method worked for me and I hope it will help you too. About opting optional subject, it is all about your interest and aptitude. Get hold of the subjects list and jot down subject you feel interest and have aptitude, latter you can have a look at past paper and then decide. I think it will help you a good deal because this is how I did choose my optional. I wish you all the best.

Dear Mohsin,
When I am saying that, it means I happened to draw the maps related to the international issues in question. I would like to make it clear with an example, say for instance, a question is coming in the paper about Iran-Pakistan-India pipe line. If I am having knowledge of regional geography and practice of drawing map, I can draw it in answer sheet too and it will give me some extra marks. This has a very good impression on the examiner and that is what I mean. I hope it is clear with you. I wish that you stay successful in all your career moves. Good luck!

For the subjects you have mentioned, I would suggest following books:
- Mass Communication by Imtiaz Shahid for Jounalism
- History of Indo-Pak by K Ally for Indo-Pak History
In case of current affair, reading newspaper daily will do the needful. Apart from this, since I don’t have slightest of idea about Botany and Islamic studies, so I can’t give you proper advice.
Dr. Ur optional was Indopak history as well.Wt books u suggest for it? Are K Ali’s 2 volumes enough?
How to deal with vocabulary problem and can you suggest some good books for english as well.

Dear Omer,
In my view two volumes by K ally along with some portion of book named Pakistan Affairs by Sohail Bhatti is all you need to get good marks in Indo-Pakistan History. About Vocabulary issues, very little can be done instantly so for that matter, you need to keep looking for words that use to appear in examination. Cramming a word list that is suggested for GRE or SAT is a good idea. About some good book regarding English, in my view High School Grammar by Wren and Martin along with the key to its exercises for practice is the best book.

sir aslamalikum ,i have recently appeared in css examination 2008 .i m waiting for the results .a piece of advise which i want to share here is that when u prepare for css go through the previous papers .and for english as well as current affairs go through imtiaz shahid contomperary affairs which is quaterly published .one thing should be in mind dont neglect anything you should cover everything of the syllabus.

i have a confusion with english compostion , for enlish idioms, i remember everyday 5 idioms and 5 phrasal verbs which will make in total 1200 idioms and 1200 phrasal verbs till the end feb,2009 InshahAllah in a very easy and appropriate way “in my opinion”.
my question is that is it the right way what i am doing?
beacause when i discused this strategy to one CSS Officer he replied you must remeber atleast 50 to 100 idioms everyday and finish this job within a month now the question is this that how one can memorise and then retain such a huge number of ideoms

I m from Khuzdar second largest city of Balochistan province and i have completed the four year’s BS program in computer science (March 2003-March2007)having one year working experience with NCHD Pakistan but from childhood my aim was to b a police officer and now i want to do this through CSS. So kindly help me in this regard that what i need to do? I am 26 and have sufficieant hieght for POLICE force.
