Today, the Nobel foundation announced the prize in the field of medicine for 2007. This prize is shared by three, Mario Capecchi, Oliver Smithies and Briton Martin Evans for developing technique of gene targeting.In the official press release, the noble foundation have appreciated their work in following words, “This year’s Nobel Laureates have made a series of ground-breaking discoveries concerning embryonic stem cells and DNA recombination in mammals. Their discoveries led to the creation of an immensely powerful technology referred to as gene targeting in mice. It is now being applied to virtually all areas of biomedicine – from basic research to the development of new therapies.”

Mario Capecchi belongs to University of Utah; Howard Hughes Medical Institute Salt Lake City, UT, USA, Olivers Smithies hails from UK’s Cardiff University and Briton Martin Evan is associated with University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chapel Hill, NC, USA.
